The ENTRANS Policy Research Group has extensive experience in the staffing of Canadian federal government positions in the Executive, Economist, and Program Manager classifications and has provided supporting services to departments in these and other areas.

The services provided by ENTRANS include all the key steps in the selection process:

• Initial screening of applications to determine which candidates meet the essential qualifications;
• Preparation of a detailed screening board report;
• Design of tests to assess qualifying candidates' management, policy, analytical, writing and general communications skills;
• Detailed evaluation and documentation of the results of writing tests;
• Interviews; and
• Reference checks.

The extensive experience of ENTRANS principals in the fields of economics, energy and environmental affairs means that they are especially well-placed to help departmental managers design their selection processes. They are able to suggest possible questions to include in written examinations and verbal interviews, and to provide model answers.

ENTRANS has developed a unique methodology for evaluating candidates' writing skills. This methodology is based upon a detailed evaluation of up to ten writing qualities, including organization, clarity, coherence, expression of ideas, conciseness, responsiveness to the reader, and grammar.

ENTRANS works very closely with the managers and departmental human resources staff to ensure that the screening and evaluation of competencies meets all the requirements of the Statements of Merit and that the results are well documented, so that departments can respond to questions subsequently posed by unsuccessful candidates.
